“My bone broth healed my daughter!”
After watching her daughter suffer from severe joint pain and GI issues, Dorothy Barack made it her mission to find a cure. She soon discovered lasting relief was right in her kitchen.
“Mom, I just want my life back,” Laya Barak whispered over the phone to her mother, Dorothy, between sobs. Eleven years ago, Laya, who is a professional dancer and choreographer in New York City, had suffered a severe sprained ankle that damaged the cartilage and left her with chronic, debilitating pain.
The lack of cartilage had also created a lesion on Laya’s bone, resulting in inflammation and an inability to put weight on her ankle. She used to spend hours on her feet and was now unable to work or walk without developing an unbearable ache.
Dorothy’s heart was shattered when she would travel from her home in West Bloomfield, Michigan, to visit Laya in New York, and often had to push her daughter in a wheelchair through the city streets. Not long after the pain began, Laya had a stem cell procedure to regenerate cartilage in her ankle, hoping it would relieve her discomfort. But even after months of grueling physical therapy and stretching, she still struggled to find relief.
To make matters worse, Laya required antibiotics after the surgery that wreaked havoc on her digestive system.
A delicious fix
Unwilling to accept her daughter’s suffering, Dorothy went on a quest to uncover alternative options and find a way to restore Laya’s mobility. While researching, Dorothy kept coming across studies related to the health benefits of bone broth. She was intrigued to read that a warm cup of rich broth contains collagen, gelatin, minerals and amino acids—like glycine and glutamine—found to promote healing and reduce inflammation in joints and the gut.
With few pure bone broth options on store shelves, Dorothy consulted with a food scientist. With his guidance, she developed an all-natural bone broth in her own kitchen and began shipping batches to Laya.
Dorothy’s heart soared when, within just six weeks of drinking the broth daily, Laya’s painful gastrointestinal symptoms were under control. As Laya recovered from another ankle surgery, she continued sipping Dorothy’s broth and doctors were astonished at how well her bone was healing.
With Laya's urging, Dorothy turned her mission into an entrepreneurial opportunity, and she and Laya developed Broth Masters (available at BrothMasters.com) to help other women reduce pain and heal.
“Nothing fills my heart more joy than seeing my daughter return to her passions of dance,” Dorothy gushes. “Cooking for my loved ones has always been a labor of love, and knowing it has helped my daughter heal both her ankle and gut- along with the added bonus of trimming several points off my blood pressure- fills me with joy. I'm so excited to help others achieve their health and wellness goals and live their best lives too!"
