Sip Your Way To A Successful Pregnancy & Postpartum Recovery

If you’re pregnant (or trying to be) bone broth has a surprising amount of support to offer. It’s no wonder more women are turning to bone broth for pregnancy support, fertility nourishment, and postpartum healing.

From building your blood, to helping with morning sickness, to postpartum recovery and more –– what if you could sip your way to a successful pregnancy? 🤔 Bone broth for pregnancy is becoming a go-to natural remedy thanks to its nutrient-rich profile.

One important point before we dive in: there’s never been an official study on bone broth and pregnant women.  Still, the traditional use of bone broth during pregnancy has made it a trusted companion across cultures.

Plus, every pregnancy is different, which means we can’t promise you any specific results.

However, we felt this article was still worth writing because of the number of women who have personally credited bone broth as a pregnancy aid. Many moms-to-be have found bone broth for fertility and pregnancy to be a gentle yet powerful ally.

Aimee Raupp, a women's health expert and licensed acupuncturist with a Master of Science degree from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, calls bone broth “baby glue.”

In her view, collagen (the hero protein in bone broth) helps to improve a woman’s fertility while she is trying to conceive, and also to hold her pregnancy afterwards.

Collagen in bone broth supports tissue repair, healthy skin, and a strong uterine lining – all essential during pregnancy.

Raupp –– who is a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine –– touts the “fat, collagen, protein and minerals like calcium, potassium and magnesium” in bone broth as a “fertility-boosting concoction.”  These fertility-friendly nutrients in bone broth provide the building blocks needed for reproductive health.

She also says that she’s “seen a dramatic increase in the fertility of [her] patients who are compliant and drink a cup of bone broth daily.”

The American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine also considers the minerals in bone broth to be "deeply blood nourishing" –– which can be a big deal for pregnancy. Bone broth is rich in trace minerals essential for maternal health and fetal development.

When a woman doesn’t have enough blood in her body, there may be a lack of nutrients reaching the uterus and the ovaries.

If your periods are light, delayed, or irregular, you may be blood deficient. The same could be true if you have a thin uterine lining, dry skin, hair loss, or have previously miscarried. And bone broth may help.  Adding bone broth to your daily diet could support hormone balance and menstrual regularity.

Again: this belief needs further study to be proven, but there is some supporting evidence.

In a 2017 clinical trial published in The Journal of Advanced Biomedical Research, sixty pregnant women were given magnesium (a mineral in Broth Masters) every day for a month.

When the study ended, those women had better pregnancy outcomes (with respect to intrauterine growth retardation, preterm labor, maternal body mass index, neonatal weight, pregnancy-induced hypertension, preeclampsia, and more) than two other groups who didn’t take magnesium. Magnesium in bone broth plays a crucial role in preventing common pregnancy complications and promoting fetal growth.

Another area where bone broth can really help is with morning sickness. One of the most helpful uses of bone broth during early pregnancy is as a gentle food for nausea relief.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, about 70% of pregnant women experience morning sickness starting around the six-week mark.

This can put you (and baby) in a tough spot: you need nutrition, but you can’t hold anything solid down!

Bone broth is silky smooth, it’s bioavailable (meaning the nutrients are readily absorbed and used by your body), it’s easy to digest, and it has enough protein to keep your energy up. You can even whisk an egg yolk in for some extra healthy fat and protein. Whether you're in your first trimester or nearing delivery, bone broth for pregnancy nutrition is a gentle, effective option.

But what about postpartum recovery and healing?

Pregnancy is one of the most physically taxing experiences a human being can go through.  Supporting postpartum recovery with bone broth is an ancient practice that’s making a modern comeback.

Your skin, uterine tissue, abdominal muscles, and pelvic floor all need to heal –– and bone broth collagen is up to the task. The collagen in bone broth helps restore connective tissue, soothe joints, and promote faster postpartum healing.

One daily cup can help soothe your joints, replenish lost nutrients, and reduce stretch marks. Many new moms use bone broth as a natural remedy for postpartum fatigue and tissue repair.

A successful pregnancy depends on many factors –– not just one dietary choice –– but if you want to raise the odds, treat yourself to Broth Masters.  Broth Masters bone broth offers a nourishing, convenient way to care for your body before, during, and after pregnancy.

“I treated myself to 40 days of Broth Masters bone broth after my second baby arrived two weeks ago and, I kid you not, I have to remind myself that I just had a baby. How is this even possible? I’m going to do an Ironman race next week. Not true, but I feel like I could. This bone broth, with its high nutrient value, is profoundly restorative, and I am so grateful for the product and the people behind it- THANK YOU!” -- Sara L.
